Title Reveal Daughter of Montague #3!

Me to my Kensington editor: “I can’t stand it, I have to say this: the title for book #3 is so much less impressive than the first two. I can never remember it.”

John the Editor: “What is it?”

Me: “Exactly! Let’s revisit my idea of TEACH THE TORCHES TO BURN. It will jump off a cover.”

Editor: “I’ll bounce it off Sales and my publisher but my gut is saying they’re not going to like it. But who knows? I could be wrong.”

Editor Next Day: “Shows you what I know! Everyone loves TEACH THE TORCHES TO BURN. So, we have a new title!”

Me: “I’m so happy!”

And I really am. Book titles are tricky. FYI to you, the other title was A POISON MOST DISCREET. Both John and my agent thought it was a great title, so I agreed…until I kept forgetting it! When the author can’t remember her title, you’ll agree that’s a bad sign. (Although maybe you like it better?)

See the title reveal video on YouTube. It’s flashy!

“TEACH THE TORCHES TO BURN” is vivid in my memory as Romeo’s line when he first sees Juliet. “O, she doth teach the torches to burn bright! Beauty too rich for use, for earth too dear!”

What can I say? I was a teenager when I saw the movie in a theater and realized the ending was a tragedy tacked onto a lovely romance, and being me, from that moment I was destined to somehow re-write Romeo and Juliet.

As we speak, TEACH THE TORCHES TO BURN is up online…with no cover. It’ll be another excruciating month or so before I get my first glimpse of it and can sneak it into your newsletter. I hope there’s a flaming torch! Are you with me?

Read an excerpt, reviews and listen to A DAUGHTER OF FAIR VERONA  audiobook clip! Which has created more fuss than any audiobook I’ve ever written. The voice actress is Suzy Jackson, and she’s fabulous as Rosie Montague!
